Hi everyone! I’d like to take you on a really fun sewing adventure. First, let's start with some back story about how this pattern came about. I originally created this pattern for my husband. He is a computer engineering manager who travels a lot and also a huge DnD fan. He wanted a bag that he could take to work that carried his laptop, pens, his mouse, had pockets for USB cables and other things. So, like other sewists I went on a pattern hunt. I showed him all of the laptop bag patterns I found. He really wasn’t happy with any of the patterns I showed him. Then he looked at me and said, “ You can create one for me.” I kind of looked at him. In the back of my mind i’m thinking, do you know how many different parts, pieces and measuring goes into making a pattern. Let’s not forget I have never sewn a bag before much less try and make a pattern for one. Pin-up aprons and kitchen items were my speciality. So I measured his computer and got to creating. Looking back at the first one I created, well let’s just say nobody should have put a laptop in it. Remember how I said I had never made a bag before. I had no idea about interfacing, foam, installing zippers or stabilizers. Let’s just say I was fumbling around in the dark. The first laptop bag was lined with cotton quilting batting. My husband being the supportive guy he is said “ Thank You” and used it. Knowing what I know now I feel horrible I made that for him. About two weeks later, I bought my first purse pattern and found a YouTube video for it. My eyes were opened to the wonderful world of interfacing, foam, stabilizers, zippers and everything else my laptop bag should have had. I took everything I learned from making that purse and applied it to my laptop bag. Oh wow, was my husband blown away by generation 2. He had people at his work asking how to get one and they quickly became a show stopper at the shows I did. I really hope you all enjoy sewing it!

The Wayne Laptop Bag comes in 2 sizes, small and large. The finished measurements for each size are:

Small: 15” wide by 12” high and 4” deep

Large: 15” wide by 12” high and 6” deep

This is a messenger style bag with a padded divider with pockets galore. There are two large zipper pockets; one on the interior and exterior of the bag. It has 3 closable pockets which can be closed using a magnetic snap, KamSnaps or buttons. There’s also a place to hold 3 pens, pencils, stylus pens, highlighters or whatever you use to scribe or draw with.

This pattern includes time stamps for the how to video at the beginning of each step or there’s a complete how to video for this pattern available on the free tier of our Patreon.

This pattern includes: pattern instruction, PDF pattern pieces, a cut list, cut tags, an A0 file and a how to video.
